Carmen Aub shares that her daughter was born with a serious health problem.

Mexican-American artist Carmen Aub, internationally known for her role as Rutila Casillas in El Señor de los Cielos, revealed on her Instagram account that her baby Lu Sikic Aub was born with a serious health problem.
"In honor of Deafness Awareness Month, we wanted to share something very important about our daughter, Lu," begins the text that the artist published on her social media, which she accompanied with a carousel of photos of her family, the baby, and the tools they have been using to help her.
"Lu faces a silence she didn't ask for, and we face our greatest fears: not knowing if we're up to the challenge before us. Not knowing if we'll have the capacity, the resources, or simply the clarity to accompany her on a path that was completely unknown to us just a few weeks ago," the artist wrote. Yes, Lu doesn't hear like most of us. Technically speaking, she has moderate to severe hearing loss.
Aub and her husband, Peruvian visual and performance artist Iván Sikic, said they went through denial and other stages of grief until they accepted that since they're dealing with this with their little girl, they're "feeling lucky that it was detected so early in her life. We discovered there's a whole new world to explore: hearing aids, cochlear implants, sign language... options that won't define Lu, but that will open doors."
They also reported that only 0.1% of children worldwide suffer from deafness, "and although we still don't understand the 'why,' we are clear that they will never walk alone."
"Lu: you are perfect. Thank you for teaching us that life is deeper than we imagined," Aub added, before concluding that she didn't share her baby's situation "looking for pity or special treatment. We do it because we believe that talking honestly about it raises awareness, and we feel fortunate for everything Lu has taught us."
The little girl was born in July 2025 in Miami Beach. Announcing her arrival, Aub wrote: "Born 11/7/25 at 3:39 pm, after 24 hours of hard labor. Weighing 5.5 lbs and measuring 19 inches tall, she was a little under her ideal weight for full term (39 weeks and 4 days), but she's been perfect and hasn't stopped gaining strength in her first hours of life."
