Meanwhile, a new champion will be crowned this year after last year's winner, Chris Froome, withdraw from competition after suffering another crash on Wednesday.

Froome had his second crash of this year's tour, and the latest one led to his withdrawal from the race, with reports indicating that the Sky rider sustained a left wrist injury.

Without Froome, Nibali and Contador are now the heavy favorites to win the 2014 Tour de France, while Team Sky will pin their hopes on Australian rider Richie Porte, who is currently in eighth place after the fifth stage.

The complete 2014 Tour de France classification is available on the tournament's official website and video highlights are available here.
