Fans of "The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies" movie were treated to the first official poster. The poster was released on Wednesday, just a day before San Diego Comic-Con kicked off, notes IGN.

The photo prominently features Smaug above Lake-town, where it seems he is destroying the town. Bard the Bowman, who is played by Luke Evans, has a bow and arrow in hand and is facing off with the dragon.

Lake-town was featured in the last film, "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug." The town is inhabited by men and it is made completely of wood. Bilbo Baggins and the dwarves he is traveling with sneak into town with the help of Bard.

A still from the movie was also recently released. It shows Gandalf and Bard the Bowman looking upwards. It's fitting that both images feature Bard, as he will have a bigger role in the upcoming film.

A real first look at the movie should be coming on July 26, when Peter Jackson and some of the actors will be present at Comic-Con to talk about the movie. So far, fans have continued to ask Peter Jackson on Facebook for the trailer, which is something he discussed earlier in the month.

"Of course, many of you asked about the Hobbit Trailer," he said on The Hobbit's official Facebook page. "So, yes -- there will be a Hobbit trailer. But like the previous two years, it's not going to be released until around Oct. The complex VFX work required to produce the battle shots we're all wanting to see are simply not far enough along yet. However ... yesterday I finished work on a Teaser Trailer and that has just been delivered to Warner Bros. So no doubt this Teaser Trailer will be making its way into the world sometime soon..."

The movie will be released on Dec. 17.
