The New York Yankees recently acquired Brandon McCarthy to shore up their pitching rotation, but reports indicated that they are still aggressively shopping for another pitcher on the trade market.

Fox Sports' Jon Morosi revealed on Thursday that the Yankees are interested in acquiring San Diego Padres pitcher Ian Kennedy, and New York reportedly scouted the 29-year-old during Wednesday's match against the Chicago Cubs.

"Yankees are trying to trade for a starting pitcher. They scouted Ian Kennedy in Chicago last night, source says," Morosi posted on his Twitter account.

The right hander is slowly getting back into his groove this year after struggling last season and is currently 8-9 with 143 strikeouts and a 3.66 ERA in 22 starts for the Padres this season.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman also confirmed the Yankees' interest in Kennedy in the hopes of getting another quality arm to shore up their injury-riddled rotation for a possible post-season run.

"The Yankees, one of the teams interested in Kennedy, seek to upgrade their rotation after the loss of four of their original five starting pitchers. New York is familiar with Kennedy, who came up with the Yankees after being a first-round draft choice by them," Heyman said.

The Yankees are in dire need of another starter after four of their original starters this season went down with injuries. Ivan Nova is done for the season after undergoing Tommy John surgery, while CC Sabathia could also miss the remainder of the season. Michael Pineda is still out with back problems, while ace Masahiro Tanaka is still recovering from an elbow injury.

However, acquiring Kennedy will be easier said than done for the Yankees as the Padres have already informed teams that they will only trade the eight-year veteran if offered an intriguing trade package.

"The Padres have sent word to some teams that they would need to be overwhelmed to trade Ian Kennedy, sources said. Or at least that's the message being received," Heyman wrote.

Philadelphia Phillies veteran AJ Burnett was also allegedly on New York's radar over the past several weeks, but ESPN's Jayson Stark revealed that the Yankees are not interested in the 37-year-old right hander.

The 37-year-old Burnett is 6-9 this season with 119 strikeouts and a 3.86 ERA in 22 starts this season.
