Norman Reedus has been opening up about Season 5 of "The Walking Dead," which is great for him because he didn't think his character, Daryl Dixon, would make it out of Season 4 alive.

In an interview with Huffington Post, Reedus talked about the "huge" season premiere, which other producers have been touting as an explosive start to the season as well. He also seconded a comment from Glenn Rhee actor Steven Rhee, who expressed surprise that that much gore would air on TV.

"It's so large of an episode, and there's so much going on," Reedus teased. "There were parts of it that were amazing, and I was looking at Andy [co-star Andrew Lincoln] and going, 'How are they going to put this on television? It's so gnarly.' And then he would lean over and go, 'Dude, you say that about every season.'"

Reedus also revealed that his favorite scenes this season take place in an episode focused on his character and "another person's character" that features "pretty mind blowing" and "epic" scenes."

Where there are favorite scenes, however, there are sad ones as well as "The Walking Dead" isn't the hit it is without some shocking deaths.

"I can't tell you if or who would die but it is 'The Walking Dead,'" Reedus said. "We sort of have a track record of being fearless when it comes to that sort of thing. Grab your tissues."

Last season, Reedus thought Daryl would be one of the characters fans would be crying over.

"When we were just about to wrap up last season, [creator Robert] Kirkman called me, and he said, 'Hey, I really want to talk to you. Can you call me back?'" Reedus recalled to Entertainment Weekly. "I was like, 'Okay, I'm getting the call. I'm gonna die on the show.'"

Kirkman, however, was calling about a part in the movie "Air," due for a spring 2015 release.

Season 5 of "The Walking Dead" starts in October on AMC.
