The trailer for "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies" was among the anticipated releases in last weekend's Comic-Con 2014 in San Diego. After it was unveiled for the first time at the convention, the film's official Twitter account released the trailer online, and the post was promptly retweeted by some of the stars, including Ian McKellen and Andy Serkis who portray Gandalf and Gollum, respectively, The Independent reported.

After reclaiming the home of the Dwarves called Erebor from the fire-breathing dragon Smaug, Bilbo Baggins and Thorin Oakenshield find themselves again battling against the havoc-wreaking enemy who is also seen in the trailer.

"The Battle of the Five Armies" is the third and final installment of Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit" trilogy, following the story of Bilbo Baggins and his adventures of saving Middle Earth. It originally had the title of "There and Back Again," but Jackson changed the title in April, finding the new name more apt to the situation of the film.

He explained on his Facebook page that the original title had actually been covered in the tales of the two previous installments. According to him, the new title accurately depicts the essence of the story, involving the many known creatures and characters that go into battle, including the goblins, dwarves, elves, orcs and men.

At the start of the trailer, Bilbo is heard saying how he will one day remember everything that happened -- the good and the bad, and those who did and did not survive.

The "Hobbit" trilogy expands the known universe of the also popular "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy by also including the appendices that J.R.R Tolkien wrote about Middle Earth. Starring Martin Freeman, Sir Ian McKellen, Orlando Bloom, Evangeline Lilly and Benedict Cumberbatch, the film is set to be released in theaters on Dec. 12 in the United Kingdom and on Dec. 17 in the United States.
