Trailers for a number of anticipated films have been released over the weekend following the promotional media in the 2014 San Diego Comic-Con, including "Guardians of the Galaxy" and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," among others.

But one of the highlight reels in the major pop culture convention was the preview clip of Warner Bros. production of "Mad Max: Fury Road." While the special surprise was reserved for those who actually went to Comic-Con, its producers have also decided to release the teaser online, Indie Wire reported.

"Mad Max: Fury Road" is the fourth film of the Mad Max franchise that takes place in a futuristic post-apocalyptic world. "Fury Road" will be a reboot of the series that last released a film in 1985, making the 2015 release exactly 30 years after the last one.

George Miller has practically restarted the franchise in his own and distinct style, primarily by replacing Mel Gibson with Tom Hardy for starters. Furthermore, the director also said back in 2012 that "Fury Road" would be a "new interpretation" of the post-apocalyptic fiction. He has apparently discarded some elements from the history of the franchise, while retaining important ones as well.

Nonetheless, "Fury Road" will be set right after the events of "The Road Warrior," keeping a connection with the original series. According to Forbes, the film will be light on the dialogue but will deliver intense old-school action visuals with the help of modern-day technology and equipment.

The decision to reboot the franchise could also be to make the film reach a wider scope of moviegoers and for it to be friendlier to the general audience and not just the "Mad Max" fans and geek-dom.

The film starring Tom Hardy with Charlize Theron, Hugh Keays-Byrne, Nicholas Hoult, Nathan Jones and others is set to be released in theaters on May 15, 2015.
