Kendrick Lamar is teaming up with award-winning director Kahlil Joseph to create a short film inspired by his critically acclaimed 2012 major label debut "good kid, m.A.A.d city" for Sundance's first annual NEXT Fest.

According to The FADER, the upcoming event is a mini-film festival for showcasing budding directors and aspiring artists. Joseph has previously won a Sundance Award for "Until The Quiet Comes," a project he worked on with Flying Lotus.

Appropriately shortened and titled "m.A.A.d," the Compton emcee's 14-minute short film is described as "a kaleidoscope of storylines and ideas that defy typical categorization to explore new languages and new forms." It is set to premiere at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 9, at the Ace Hotel theatre in Downtown Los Angeles.

The festival will feature Khalil Joseph's panel discussion, followed by a screening of Sundance winner "Imperial Dreams," as well as Tinashe's special performance of her summer hit "2 On" featuring SchoolBoy Q.

Meanwhile, Lamar recently discussed his new album in his interview with Complex. He admitted that there is no cover art in mind just yet, and as for a title, he said he is "flirting with ideas." He said that he has been working mainly with Top Dawg Entertainment's in-house producers, Tae Beast and Sounwave of Digi+Phonics.

The "B**ch Don't Kill My Vibe" hitmaker also revealed that he has recorded 30-40 new tracks so far for the highly anticipated forthcoming album, as he is still in the process of "getting his ideas down." However, he did reveal that he will be set for a fourth quarter release.

Kendrick Lamar said there is less pressure on him now than there was right before the "good kid" release, when he was "super nervous" and having doubts in himself. "I was on the tour bus going back and forth on the text with Pharrell," he said. "I asked him, 'You think they gon' get it?' And he told me, 'Don't ever doubt yourself again. Always be aware but don't ever mistake your first mind, your input of where your heart is at.'"
