The "Guardians of the Galaxy" is here to save the world, and the World Wrestling Entertainment performer Dave Bautista is bringing his acting and wrestling talents to his new found fame.

"Guardians of the Galaxy" is already in theaters, and it stars Bautista who plays Drax the Destroyer. The soft-spoken 6-foot-tall man prefers to discuss his time working with the cast, his workout routine and his heritage.

Bautista's auditioning, preparation and actually performing the role of Drax was nerve wracking for him. Bautista admitted that the audition process went on for months and that each time he performed the role of Drax it felt more real to him. Bautista had his doubts, however, but it was too late because he was already emotionally and physically invested in Drax.

"I had a fear that if I didn't get the part, I was now so emotionally invested I was really going to be heartbroken," Bautista said, according to ComicBook.com.

Bautista had a battle within him of knowing and not knowing and then just reading the internet rumors.

"This guy's got the part, this guy was offered the part. So it was three and a half months of torture," Bautista said of Internet rumors. When it was finally confirmed that Bautista did indeed get the part, he was not allowed to acknowledge it publicly. "I had to just sit on it," Bautista said.

On working with the cast, Bautista never met Zoe Saldana, but his past experience with another female actress on a different film project made him pause for concern. On that last movie, Bautista said, "I had a bad experience with the lead actress, she just complained about everything, bitched about everything. Bad, bad, bad. Just diva. Me, me, me. Give me this, give me that."

He said that Saldana was the last cast member that he had met.

"I didn't know anything about her and I was thinking, 'Man, I hope she's not a diva.'" The first time meeting for Bautista and Saldana, it went well. Both drove up to rehearsals, and Bautista's driver stated that it was "Zoe in the car behind us." Much to Bautista's surprise, Saldana jumped out of her car yelling "Bautista!" She gave him a big hug.

Bautista, 45, has already been in two big-screen projects, "Riddick" and "The Man With the Iron Fists." But some would say that this is his time as Drax the Destroyer in Marvel/Disney's Phase 2 film project with "Guardians of the Galaxy."

How does he continue to stay in shape?

Bautista is already ripped in the film, and in real life, the extra that he did was lifting weights so that he could put some weight back on as Drax, the New York Post reported. Bautista said, "I avoided the weights and really tried to trim down because I was trying to get more roles, which is really hard to do when you look like a shaved gorilla."

For some reason, it looks as if Bautista does not own a shirt in "Guardians," or in wrestling, but he does in real life. Bautista said that when he does not go to the gym he is usually in "tank tops," but when he goes to the gym, he usually wears sweatshirts and long-sleeve hooded shirts.

Saldana, like some fans, thought that Bautista was Latino. Bautista is not. He said he told Saldana that he did not speak Spanish. Bautista is in fact half-Greek and half-Filipino. Bautista said he would love a Greek role, like in "Hercules."

"Even a romantic comedy based in Greece, or 'My Big Fat Greek Wedding,' I would love to do it," Bautista said. Bautista's maternal ancestors are from Greece, but he has never had the opportunity to visit. He hopes to one day visit and explore. Bautista is not averse to playing Filipino roles either.

"I am always proud to say I am half-Greek. I think that the older I get, the more Greek I look," Bautista said, the Greek Hollywood Reporter noted.

"Guardians of the Galaxy" already in theaters, centers around a diverse group of aliens who form a squad that can defeat cosmic threats. Bautista's Drax the Destroyer was a human who was killed then resurrected with a mission to kill super villain Thanos.
