After disappointing numbers for its fiscal first quarter, Nintendo is sticking to its predictions for a strong year of performance.

Nintendo is facing competition from Microsoft and Sony as well as mobile devices and they've said that they'll start offering some strong titles soon such as "Super Smash Bros."

Continuing with its success from Mario Kart 8, Nintendo Wii U players can now download "Super Mario Kart" from the Wii U eShop. This was the game that kicked off a future of seven more Mario Kart games. It was released in 1992 for the Super Nintendo system.

At the end of the month, a DLC for "Mario Kart 8" will be released. This will include three free Mercedes-Benz karts: the GLA, the W25 Silver Arrow and the 300 SL Roadster. This DLC patch update will hit the Wii U Aug. 27.

The name might be to blame

The Wii U hasn't gained the popularity that Xbox and PlayStation has. Could it be because of their name? One former lead at Nintendo's Indie Program thinks so.

Look at what Dan Adelman, former lead of Nintendo's Indie Program said:

"Wii U is not selling as well as it deserves to. It has a lot to offer with great games you can't get anywhere else. The value of the GamePad hasn't been justified. But the name Wii U is abysmal. I think that cut sales in half right there."

With "Super Smash Bros." for Wii U expected to come out around the holidays, Nintendo has some other future plans as well.

"Zelda" is a classic Nintendo game and thankfully a new "Zelda" game is expected sometime in 2015.

Are these classic games the answer for Nintendo? Will they be enough to get the system to compete with Xbox and PlayStation? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.
