Without much fanfare, one of Hollywood's longest-lasting marriages came to an end, though not for the first time.

David Duchovny, famous for his role as Agent Fox Mulder in the "X-Files" as well as Hank Moody in "Californication," divorced his long-time wife the actress Tea Leoni, according to People magazine. TMZ originally broke the story, according to the magazine, and said that the couple had filed for divorce back in June.

Duchovny, 57, and Leoni, 48, married 17 years ago in 1997 and had two separations during their marriage. The first happened in 2008, when Duchovny went to rehab for sex addiction. The couple broke up again in 2011, according to TMZ, but they did not divorce.

The couple has two children: Madelaine, who is 15, and Kyd, who is 12, according to the New York Daily News. Both have been separated since at least the divorce was filed but both continue to reside in New York City. As part of the divorce agreement the couple has joint custody of the children; however, Duchovny will bear the brunt of the pecuniary dues.

He will have to pay more than $8,000 in child support as well as $40,000 in spousal support, reports the newspaper. Duchovny's expenditures, however, do not end there. He will also be in charge of paying for their children's private school and future college costs and other expenditures.

However, now their divorce has become public, it could validate recent rumors that Duchovny is dating his former co-star, Gillian Anderson. Apparently the pair has been seen together more often recently and, according to the gossip site Celeb Dirty Laundry, the two have become single at the same time before.

In the meantime, Duchovny is appearing in the movie "Louder than Words," which opened on Aug. 1. He stars alongside Hope Davis.
