The upcoming third season of American television series "Nashville" will be welcoming a newcomer with the "Dancing With the Stars" veteran having been booked by ABC for multiple episodes as confirmed by the representatives of the show, Variety reports. Derek Hough, 29 years old, will be playing Noah West's role, a movie star who gets a lead role in a biopic of the country singer before he meets the music scene of Nashville for the first time.

While he is more famous for being a talented dancer, Hough actually has an extensive background in previous acting projects. The handsome actor who has also been called "beguiling and disarming" seems like he is set to share his talents on a different genre of television show.

The Emmy-winning dancer and choreographer starred in the film "Make Your Move" and a number of other shows including "Jesus Christ Superstar," "Footloose: The Musical" and "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang." In 2011, Hough appeared in an episode of "Better With You," also by ABC, as a dance instructor.

Before "Dancing With The Stars," he was an extra in "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," and he had a cameo appearance with Tom Cruise on "Rock of Ages" in 2012. Aside from Hough, Tony Award-winner Laura Benanti will also be making cameo appearances in multiple episodes.

According to Us Weekly, Derek Hough expressed his excitement over his new role, tweeting on Thursday, that he "can't wait" as he retweeted the post by the account of Nashville on the online social media platform. This does not mean that he has hung up his dancing shoes, as it was also announced that Hough will be coming back for the next season of the popular television show together with veterans Cheryl Burke, Karina Smirnoff and Mark Ballas.

"Nashville" season 3 will be returning to television screens on Sept. 24 on ABC.
