Developers and program managers of Microsoft's Internet Explorer joined the Reddit thread "Ask Me Anyting" (AMA) on Thursday in an attempt to persuade users online to give the notorious browser another chance, Gizmodo reports. The team divulged details about the upcoming IE12, confirming that regular feature updates will be available for users and that they are actually considering changing the name of Internet Explorer to veer away from its bad image.

Internet Explorer was not really all that bad, especially early in 2005 when it held the most dominating share of the market at 89 percent with Firefox in second place with only 6 percent of the browser market share. However, Microsoft's browser went through a deep plunge in late 2011 when it accounted for only 52 percent of the share as compared to its previous domination.

Its decline was attributed to the developer's decision to stop working on the browser, possibly because of its already established success. Since then, other web browsers took the opportunity to steal the game little by little by providing better services and continuous development. After years of just letting that happen, the IE team of Microsoft is urging users and especially those who are on Windows to give the browser another shot, according to ZDNet.

One of the IE developers, Jonathan Sampson, said that the trend of using Internet Explorer just to download another browser is mainly due to public perception based on experiences from the past wherein IE was much different than it is now. He added that it is now the team's task to win back the hearts of Internet users, mainly by changing that public perception that caused its downfall.

Many users who joined the discussion suggested the change of name and the team is considering it, but it is just one possibility. They have also discussed how the browser will be coming out with newer features and policies in its later versions.
