New Brazil coach Carlos Dunga named his first squad since taking over as manager following the country's disappointing performance in the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Dunga, who took over from Luis Felipe Scolari after the former manager's contract was not renewed, only named 10 players from the 23-man squad that failed to win the World Cup.

Among the players who kept their spot are striker Neymar, Oscar, David Luiz, Hulk, Fernandinho, Maicon, Willian, Ramires and Luis Gustavo. Former team captain Thiago Silva did not make the squad due to injury.

Dunga said that keeping experienced players despite their recent showing in the World Cup was the right thing to do.

"History shows that you can't start from scratch, it's important to keep some of the previous structure in place," Dunga said via The Guardian. "Slowly we will be giving opportunities to the younger players. It's not because of one bad result that everything was wrong."

Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho, Atletico Madrid's Miranda and Chelsea's Filipe Luis also made the squad along with Porto's Danilo and Alex Sandro, Napoli's Rafael Cabral and Corinthian's Elias. Cruizero forward Ricardo Goulart, the Brazilian League's leading scorer, also made the cut.

Full-backs Dani Alves and Marcelo along with striker Fred were left out of the squad, but Dunga, who will be first tested in their upcoming friendly matches against Colombia on Sept. 5 in Miami and Ecuador on Sept. 9 in New Jersey, pointed out that former World Cup players still have chances to make the squad in future competitions.

"It's important that all players know that this is just the beginning of our work," Dunga said. "It doesn't mean that the players not in this list won't have another chance with the national team. The doors will remain open to all Brazilian players."
