A telenovela centers around a love story.

And whether or not two actors have chemistry can be more important than what else goes on in the show. We're taking a look back at the couples that have made telenovelas a must watch.

1. María Hernández and Luis Fernando

From the very first moment María Hernández and Luis Fernando met on "Maria La Del Barrio," there was an attraction. Luis Fernando may have been a tad elitist at first, but it didn't take him long to fall head over heels for her. So much so, that he quickly moved on from Soraya. What made this couple so compelling was that even through all their struggles -- and there were many -- you knew they were madly in love.

2. Milagros and Ivo

"Muñeca Brava" is another story of a rich man falling in love with a poor girl. Milagros comes to work for Ivo's family after being raised in an orphanage. Milagros isn't meek, and she and Ivo have a playful relationship. The two have to go through a lot of other relationships and even thinking they were siblings for a time before they can finally end up together.

3. Beatriz Aurora "Betty" Pinzón Solano and Armando Mendoza Sáenz

"Yo Soy Betty, La Fea" revolved around a socially awkward woman, who by the end of the telenovela, has grown into a beauty. She is hired as Armando's secretary and quickly proves to be invaluable. Armando's company is on the brink of financial ruin and it is through Betty's help that the company recovers. This was by no means a love at first sight attraction. Instead, the couple gets to know each other very well before finding themselves together.

4. Lucas and Jade

In "El Clon," Lucas and Jade fall in love, but are met with problems because of their different background. Jade is of Arab descent. These two go through everything, such as time spent apart, distance and a clone, before they are able to have a happily ever after.

5. Paulina Martínez and Carlos Daniel Bracho

In "La Usurpadora," Paulina and Paola are twins who were separated at birth. Paola persuades Paulina to take her place as Carlos' wife. The two are able to survive, even though Paola was not the woman he chose to marry. But her kind nature won him over, and more importantly, it won over the love of his son.

6. Alejandro and Montserrat

In "Lo Que La Vida Me Robó," Montserrat wasn't even supposed to be with Alejandro. She's first in love with Jose Luis. The reason that Montserrat and Alejandro are such a great couple is because their passion could be felt. And even when Jose Luis threatened their relationship, they came out stronger.
