The Green Bay Packers may be a small town team but they're a winning team, with 13 NFL championships. Now, they have won the honor of having the "Best Fans in the NFL," according to Forbes Magazine.

Forbes conducted the study and found that Packers fans follow the team the closest, attend or watch games the most and purchase the most team merchandise, among other factors.

The Packers beat out the Denver Broncos, New Orleans Saints, New England Patriots and Baltimore Ravens as having the NFL's best fans. These teams took the second through fifth rankings in the Forbes study.

The Green Bay, Wisconsin metro area has only a population of around 300,000 but almost all of those residents are Packers fans. According to research by Nielsen Scarborough, those living in Green Bay are almost always fans of the team. In fact, only 16 percent of Green Bay adults admit that they are not fans of the team. That means the other 84 percent has followed the team in the last year by either attending a game or watching/listening to a game.

Even though the Green Bay area is quite small, Packers fans come from all over the state (and the country). Almost 4.5 million Packers fans follow the team on Facebook and over 700,000 fans follow the team on Twitter.

Forbes looked at three years of TV ratings, hometown crowd reach, social media population based on the area's population, stadium capacity percentage and sales of team merchandise on NFLshop.com.

With the Packers having one of the league's top quarterbacks and a loyal fan base, the team from the small town of Green Bay, Wisconsin can enjoy a home field advantage similar to that enjoyed by the Seattle Seahawks. The Seahawks, who won the last Super Bowl, were ranked ninth on the Forbes list. Rival to the Packers, the Chicago Bears took the 10th spot, despite being a much larger city.
