Novak Djokovic will be a heavy favorite in the upcoming 2014 U.S. Open tennis tournament, but the current world No. 1 in tennis is facing a tough road to his ninth Grand Slam title.

Djokovic, who was named as the top seed in this year's tournament and the favorite to win following Rafael Nadal's withdrawal, will kick off his campaign against Diego Schwartzman.

The road to the title will be complicated starting in the round of 16, where Djokovic could face ninth-seeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, who won the Masters 1000 event in Toronto earlier this month.

And if Djokovic manages to win against Tsonga, the 2011 U.S. Open champion could face Andy Murray in the quarterfinals and 2014 Australian Open champion Stan Wawrinka in the semifinals.

Roger Federer ended up on the easier side of the draw, which makes him one of the top title contenders this year, especially after performing well in recent tournaments.

Federer, who will go up against Marinko Matosevic of Australia in the first round, could face seventh-seeded Grigor Dimitrov in the quarterfinals and David Ferrer in the semifinals.

Looking to win his 18th Grand Slam title, Federer recently defeated Ferrer in the finals of the Masters 1000 event in Cincinnati.

Meanwhile, Serena Williams was named as the No. 1 seed on the women's side and is scheduled to face 18-year-old prospect Taylor Townsend in the first round of the tournament.

Williams, who won the last two editions of the tournament, could face eighth-seeded Ana Ivanovic in the quarterfinals and Petra Kvitova in the semifinals. Kvitova could face two-time Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka in the round of 16 and Eugenie Bouchard in the quarterfinals.

Second-seeded Simona Halep, who was in the other half of the draw together with fourth-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska, is also not expected to have a walk in the park as she could go up against Maria Sharapova in the quarterfinals.

The 2014 U.S. Open tennis tournament will start on Monday, Aug. 25, at Flushing Meadows in New York. The complete draw can be seen on the official tournament website through this link.
