As the release date of the highly anticipated game Super Smash Bros. for 3DS quickly approaches, fans might notice that its Wii U counterpart will not be coming out at the same time as the handheld version. Masahiro Sakurai, the developer who created the series, offered an explanation: In his semi-weekly column, Sakurai explained how he was busy at the moment with the debug process of the new Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo 3DS, Weekly Famitsu reports.

Debugging is the stage wherein a designated team tests out the game for any possible glitches that the game programmers would have to address before they release the game. This process can take a long time as the debugging stage is a very tedious and painstaking process.

Sakurai also added that for a game like this one it takes several hundreds of people employed both domestically and overseas, making the debugging a huge project in itself. It is one of the main reasons for the separate release dates so that the Wii U and 3DS versions of Super Smash Bros. could be debugged at different periods. Since the two games run on different platforms, it would necessarily follow that the possible bugs would be different for the two, Kotaku reports.

Moreover, Sakurai also released an update with an alternate skin for Zero Suit Samus of Metroid. He posted the Wii U sample image, mentioning how they have a limited number of days left for development before the game's release. However, with the help and determination of the character designers the Zero Suit outfits were finished just in time. The special suit is reminiscent of the outfit Samus wore at a specific point in the game. It will be available in the 3DS version of Super Smash Bros. as well, Gamespot reports.
