In a bizarre smuggling attempt, a man was caught by authorities Wednesday at a Houston airport for trying to transport cocaine inside tamales. At the George Bush Intercontinental Airport, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said in a release that the man was asked to step aside for "additional screening" when he was found carrying a box in his luggage containing 200 tamales.

The apprehended man did not disclose the items on his traveler's declaration, according to the release. On closer searching, CBP found almost seven ounces worth of cocaine that were tucked in nine separate baggies inside the tamales.

The 46-year-old was traveling from El Salvador to New York when he had a layover in Texas, the agency said.

Beverly Good of the CBP Service Port Director said in the release that "this type of seizure speaks to our level of commitment in disrupting criminal activity despite the concealment method."

After arrest, CBP turned the man over to the Houston Police Department.

Earlier in the summer, another woman was caught by CBP agents at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport. On July 13, the woman was returning from a stay in Jamaica when officers noticed the rails of her luggage weren't working.

Upon further inspection, CBP agents noticed a white powdery substance on the rails which was later tested and proven to be cocaine.

After the drugs were found, the woman was taken aside and searched, where officers found "an oval-shaped object wrapped in latex concealed in her groin area within her underwear" according to CBP officials.

The object itself turned out to be nearly half of a pound of cocaine. Another 1.2 pounds were discovered hidden inside the luggage rails.

The woman was immediately arrested and now faces charges of federal narcotics smuggling.
