For those who are about to head off to college and cannot totally give up the television channels at home or even begin to think about separating from their favorite shows, Comcast has just the answer. The company recently announced its newest service called "Xfinity On Campus" that is basically a new television streaming service that would help students enjoy television shows in their dorms.

According to PC Mag, the service will be included with the room and board of the students, and it will function similar to how conventional television set-ups work. The set-up uses Wi-Fi technology that will allow the students to log in to the local network of their campus and authenticate their accounts, thereby allowing them to view live channels on their mobile devices.

With the on-demand services, students can gain access to a selection of movies and shows. This will be available even while they are not on the campus just by using the credentials of the university to allow them to view programs on other apps and websites.

Comcast realizes how television shows are part of the younger generation's culture and how these programs have to cross platforms to provide the viewers with more accessibility. Executive vice president of consumer services Marcien Jenckes illustrated this by noting that no matter what students are watching, they will always find ways of viewing their favorite programs regardless of where they are. Many consumers don't even mind watching an episode of "Game of Thrones," for example, on their smartphone's small screen.

Meanwhile, since "Xfinity On Campus" is on campus as the name suggests and is included with room and board, those who live outside campus would not be able to take advantage of the services. Moreover, the initial offering of the services covers a rather small number of universities. However, it is only the beginning of what could be a much wider range of services in the future.
