United States Army post Fort Lee, located in central Virginia, underwent lockdown on Monday morning after reports of an active shooter.

According to Reuters, the shooter was reported at the post's Combined Arms Support Command Headquarters.

"Active shooter incident reported at CASCOM HQ, Bldg. 5020. All personnel enact active shooter protocols immediately. Post on lockdown," the army post said via Twitter at about 9:30 a.m. ET.

According to Fort Lee's Facebook page, "the instillation is being locked down until further notice."

Local news stations CBS 6 reported that "alarms are being sounded across the base," and the gates to the post are shut and locked.

NBC 12 said that the incident has been called a "police emergency" by officials. At approximately 10 a.m. ET, the local news station reported that officials of the army post "have given the all clear." The identity of the alleged shooter and his or her intentions have not yet been revealed.

Fort Lee is a census-designated place near the Virginia town of Petersburg, which is approximately 30 miles south of the capital of Richmond and 135 miles south of Washington, D.C.
