The next star of ABC's "The Bachelor" will be Chris Soules, who Andi Dorfman sent home in the last season of "The Bachelorette."

Dorfman sent Soules, a 32-year-old farmer from Iowa, home ahead of the finale.

"[It] was tough, but that means it worked for me," he told People magazine. "I fell in love with Andi and got to a point where I really saw that potential ... the fact that it worked makes me confident that being the Bachelor will work for me."

On "The Bachelorette," Soules was hoping Dorfman would move to Iowa. During his time on "The Bachelor," Soules said he will be "open to compromise."

"First and foremost, I want to fall in love and find that person that is truly my soul mate," he said. "I'm willing to compromise, but I just have to find that person that I want to compromise for."

Another member of "The Bachelor" franchise was expecting to get the coveted spot next season, however. Arie Luyendyk Jr., who Emily Maynard turned down in the 2012 season of "The Bachelorette," was a rumored favorite but didn't make the cut.

"He already had his packages shot, and they even got him a trainer so he could buff up and be camera ready with his shirt off," an "insider" told Us Weekly in July.

This week, a source told the tabloid magazine that Luyendyk is "pissed" he wasn't chosen.

"I'm not the Bachelor, have fun on the farm people," he tweeted on Monday. "Thanks for the kind words everyone. It wasn't meant to be, and I'm okay with it. Happy I can move forward"

An unnamed source explained to Us Weekly why Soules was chosen over Luyendyk, even though produicers "really liked him."

"Unlike a lot of Bachelors, you know what Chris is offering," the insider explains. "He wants to find a wife and family so badly, but he's also stuck in a place that he absolutely loves and where he needs to be for his job. Being a farmer's wife might not be for everybody, but there are a lot of women who really believe in it. It will be a season different from other seasons. There will be some fun, pleasant surprises."

Soules' season of "The Bachleor" is expected to premiere in January 2015.
