The comedian and fashionista Joan Rivers was rushed to a hospital on Thursday following a complication during a procedure at a New York City clinic.

The comedian and host of the E! TV show “Fashion Police” was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital after a complication during a throat procedure at Yorkville Endoscopy clinic in Manhattan, according to USA Today.

"This morning, Joan Rivers was taken to The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, where she is being attended to. Her family wants to thank everybody for their outpouring of love and support," said Sid Dinsay, a spokesman for Mount Sinai Hospital. "We will provide an update on her condition as it becomes available."

Rivers, 81, was undergoing surgery on her vocal cords, reports the New York Daily News, when she stopped breathing on her own. She was then rushed to the Mount Sinai. The FDNY said that Rivers was in “cardiac and respiratory arrest” when they transported her from the Upper East Side clinic at around 9:40 a.m.

A source speaking to the Daily News said that no decisions would be made until Rivers’s daughter Melissa arrived from Los Angeles. The comedian’s assistant, Graham Reed, said, “She’s not conscious, but she’s stable.” He did not provide any other information.

“She would want us all to laugh,” the source told the Daily News. “But at the moment, we are all praying.”

The Brooklyn-born comedian had just finished a show the previous night, reports the Daily News. She was slated to appear for another show in New Jersey, according to USA Today. The Count Basie Theatre has postponed the show and told ticket holders that they would be honored for the rescheduled show.

Many celebrities took to Twitter to express their solidarity for Joan Rivers.
