Miley Cyrus' performance at the MTV Video Music Awards on Aug. 25 reportedly got her kicked off the front cover of Vogue magazine.

According to the Daily Mail, Anna Wintour, Vogue editor-in-chief, planned on putting Cyrus on the cover of Vogue's December issue. The photographs were already taken and were an attempt to turn Cyrus, former star of The Disney Channel's "Hannah Montana," into a fashion icon.

After Cyrus, 20, danced around in unflattering latex at the VMAs, however, Wintour, 63, reportedly changed her mind.

"Anna found the whole thing distasteful,' a Daily Mail source said. "She decided, based on Miley's performance, to take the cover in a different direction."

Meanwhile, Cyrus, who made her confusing, attention-grabbing performance with Robin Thicke, is seeing moderate success. Her single "Wrecking Ball," which was released 16 days ago, has jumped from number 13 on Billboard's Digital Songs chart to number 5. The summer jam, "We Can't Stop," which the infamous performance began with, dropped two spots down from number seven on the chart.

According to Cyrus, she was attempting to make her name remembered in history when she stepped onto the stage at Barclays Center straddling a foam finger and kissing on her co-performer Thicke.

"Me and Robin [Thicke,] the whole time said, 'You know we're about to make history right now," Cyrus said in an interview with MTV News.

It appears that Cyrus may have gotten what she wanted. After her performance, the internet exploded with comments about the show. Most of the comments, however, were negative remarks about Cyrus' backside, which spilled and oozed out of skin-colored attire, and her inappropriate dancing on the married Thicke, 36.

"I don't pay attention to the negative because I've seen this play out so many times," Miley said, "How many times have we seen this play out in pop music?"

Cyrus even went as far as to compare her performance to those of pop greats Madonna and Britney Spears. "Madonna's done it. Britney's done it. Every VMA performance, that's what you're looking for. You're wanting to make history."

Cyrus will release her latest album, Bangerz, on Oct. 8.
