Roger Federer will continue his chase for the elusive 18th Grand Slam title in the third round of the 2014 U.S. Open tennis tournament on Sunday in New York.

Federer, one of the strong favorites to win the title this year following Rafael Nadal's withdrawal, will go up against Marcel Granollers of Spain, who is looking to score a huge upset against his more celebrated opponent.

Federer is coming off an impressive 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 win against Marinko Matosevic in the second round. The 33-year-old Swiss, who has not dropped a set in the first two rounds, will be a heavy favorite to win against Granollers, but Federer insisted that there is no room for complacency for him.

"I don't necessarily agree that it's always an advantage being the favorite or former world No. 1 or Grand Slam champion, because I really do believe a lot of guys come out swinging against us, and they usually play above what they usually can," Federer said in an interview.

Fourth-seeded David Ferrer of Spain will also see action on Sunday against 26th-seeded Gilles Simon of France, while seventh-seeded Grigor Dimitrov will go up against David Goffin of Belgium.

On the women's side, Maria Sharapova will look to book a spot in the quarterfinal when she faces Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark in the fourth round.

Sharapova, a five-time Grand Slam champion, is coming off a clinical 6-2, 6-4 win against Sabine Lisicki, while Wozniacki won against Andrea Petkovic 6-3, 6-2 on Friday.

The fifth-seeded Sharapova will be a heavy favorite heading into her match against Wozniacki, but the Russian knows that she will have a tough match against her 10th-seeded opponent.

"She's having a really good summer so far. She's really raising her level to where she wants it to be," Sharapova said. "Although we haven't played in a while, we have played against each other many times. No secrets on our games. We've been on the tour for many years, so I expect a tough match, a physical match."
