"Downton Abbey" has been garnering success after success with each season. Watching the British costume drama series is like learning history. As it depicts the lives of a fictional aristocratic family in Yorkshire during the post-Edwardian era, some of the great events in history that affected their lives and the hierarchy in British society are clearly portrayed.

In Season 1, there was the sinking of the Titanic. Season 2 touched on the Marconi scandal, the Spanish flu pandemic of 1918 and the outbreak of WWI. The formation of the Irish Free State and the interwar period were touched on in Season 3, and season 4 tackled the Teapot Dome. What is in store for Season 5?

According to Forbes, the producers of the highly rated series have just released the forthcoming season's first trailer. Like the previous seasons, Season 5 promises to be filled with drama throughout the estate.

Season 5 will be centered in 1924, when Britain gets its first Prime Minister of Labour, Ramsay MacDonald, whose election ran afoul with the Earl of Grantham. From the outline, the season looks to be filled with fiery emotions throughout the household. New characters will be introduced, such as the guest appearances of Anna Chancellor and Richard E. Grant, as well as several forbidden passions.

The Earl of Grantham had a cryptic announcement when he said that their grandchild is about to be stolen from them forever. The question is, Who is that grandchild, George or Sybbie? The trailer teases the audience with the possibility of a very explosive scene, hinting that perhaps he had discovered the secret kept by Edith, and Lady Mary will make a decision on how her life will move forward after her husband's demise in Season 4.

The new season will premiere in Britain on Sept. 21, and American audiences will see the Season 5 premiere on Jan. 4, 2015.
