One half of the Minecraft development team, 4J Studios, has revealed that both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the popular sandbox game are awaiting approval from the console makers.

If Microsoft and Sony, respectively, approve these versions of the game, the developers are expected to release the next-generation versions shortly after, according to VG 24/7.

Last week, 4J tweeted, "#MinecraftPS4 is back with Sony for final testing. Fingers crossed..." and "We've handed Minecraft: Xbox One Edition over to Microsoft for final test! #MinecraftXBox1."

Both versions were rumored to be released at some point in August, but a setback with Sony delayed those dates. Sony rejected the first version of the PS4 game it received, meaning 4J had to fix bugs before submitting an improved version for testing.

The bad news for mobile gamers is that evidently in its effort to fix the PS4 version of the game, 4J has had to delay work on Minecraft for PlayStation Vita. The developer tweeted, "We have a bit more work to do on #MinecraftPSVita before we can hand it over to Sony. We'll let you know when we hand it over."

The Vita version of the game was rumored to be slated for a September release date, but now it appears that it will be later than that.

It also appears that Minecraft won't be released on the Wii U, at least for now, according to Wii U Daily.

"With the release of PS4 and Xbox One I think we have fulfilled most of the needs for now. There aren't many platforms left to release on," Daniel Kaplan of 4J said. "We'll see, whatever makes sense and if the platform has the user base for it. We won't release on the platform if the base is very small because it's much too big of an effort."
