In the old days, when the family was sitting in the living room and the doorbell rang, someone physically had to go to the door to see who was there. Then there was the whole process of deciding whether or not to let that person into the house.

The i-Bell is trying to ensure that scenario is a thing of the past. i-Bell -- created by i-Bell Ltd. -- is a WiFi-connected doorbell that has a camera, which can sync to an iPhone, iPad or smart TV and show a video of the person at the door, according to a report from the Telegraph.

The i-Bell can also be used when the owners aren't at home, not just to see who come to the door, but also to communicate with them. With the i-Bell, the next time the delivery man comes to drop off a package, the owner can tell them a safe place to leave it.

The device uses a motion detector to sense when a visitor is approaching, and will store images for security purposes in the cloud, said company CEO Graham Kershberg.

"The images will be available for seven days for free, after which the user can pay to store the images for longer periods," he said.

The device will be released as a part of HomeKit for iOS 8, Apple's latest operating system. HomeKit is an initiative by Apple, with which users can turn on lights and electronic, and lock doors, among many other things.

According to the International Business Times, iOS 8 will likely be released to the public for download on Sept. 17. The i-Bell is set to go on sale in November and will likely sell for more than $200.

The i-Bell was launched on KickStarter at the end of July, and initially sought around $50,000 to help make the project get started. The project eventually raised around $100,000.

"It was something I thought 'why doesn't this exist', and started looking for it, and I couldn't find it this time last year," Kershberg said. "It took us 10 months to get it to the stage when we could launch it on KickStarter, and we've now been working on it for a year."
