While the spotlight remains on Samsung's popular hybrid of a smartphone and a tablet, the Galaxy Note 4, which was launched at the IFA trade show in Berlin on Wednesday, the South Korean giant is going beyond the traditional handset to fend off competition. CBC reported on the phone maker's latest Galaxy Note Edge, which sports a display that curves around the right side of the phone, and a virtual reality headset to go with it.

The headset is called the Samsung Gear VR Innovator Edition, a device that can be worn using a nylon head strap, allowing users to watch movies and play video games with a unique viewing experience by mounting the headset to the new Galaxy Note 4. With these new gadgets, Samsung is clearly going beyond just the smartphone in its attempt to keep a shrinking lead against its competitors in the industry, The Wall Street Journal reports.

The Galaxy Note 4, the new flagship phablet, runs on Android 4.4 KitKat and sports a 5.7-inch AMOLED display with a Quad HD resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 incredibly sharp and colorful screen with 518 ppi density.

Both cameras are also upgraded with the 16-megapixel primary camera bolstered with optical image stabilization and a digital zoom of 8X, while the 3.7-megapixel front-facing camera also has an improved sensor and aperture for better performance even with dimmer lighting, Wired reports.

Another feature that the Note 4 boasts is its 3,220mAh removable battery with the "Rapid Charge" feature that allows 50 percent charging in just 30 minutes. It also has the Ultra Power Saver mode similar to the Galaxy S5 that claims to last 24 hours with just 10 percent battery life. While not all of the devices features have been revealed, the Note 4 is definitely an upgrade from its predecessor, with the metal framing being one of the most noticeable improvements that answers a common criticism to Samsung's devices.
