Apple showed a live-stream of its iPhone 6 release event on Tuesday in Cupertino, California. For those of you who didn't quite catch all of the stream, we've got you covered. Here is the latest information on the iOS 8 software that will come on the new generation of smartphones.

As we all know by know, the iPhone 6 is larger. Both sizes improve on the 5S' screen size and the software was re-designed to take full advantage of the new larger display size.

The standard Apple apps have been upgraded to have two panes. For example, the new Mail app lets you see the current message you're reading as well as the inbox when the phone is horizontal.

The phone's home screen has also been enabled for landscape mode.

The new messenging app now offers audio messages and has a new intuitive thumb-operated control in the corner. Touch ID was upgraded to work with third-party applications as well.

The Health app seems to come standard with iOS 8 and the new M8 co-processor now allows the phone to gather data about its location in space.

Apple announced a more powerful A8 chip which specializes in graphics and a slate of exciting game titles to be developed for the device under its Metal program.

Apple also announced its new payment system, Apple Pay, which combines both NFC and Touch ID technologies.

The phones start to ship on Sept. 19 in the US and eight other countries, where they can be pre-ordered by this Friday.

Apple plans to be in 155 countries by the end of this year.

The new iOS 8 software is being made available for all iPhones back to 4s, iPads since iPad 2, both iPad Mini versions as well as the iPod touch 5 generation. The software is free to download starting Sept. 17.
