If you watched the ending credits for "22 Jump Street," you might have thought that was it for for the buddy cop movies starring Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum.

The scene featured a look into future sequels, with the plots getting more contrived and with the movie poking fun at itself. But it's been announced that Sony plans to move forward with "23 Jump Street."

The original ending for "22 Jump Street" saw Hill's and Tatum's character quitting the force, but it did not test well.

"The audience was so sad," said Phil Lord, the executive producer for the movie. "Because all they want at that point in the movie is to think that this goes on forever and ever and ever. And then of course, we thought of a way to do that."

Hill and Tatum have signed on for the third film, and Rodney Rothman will write the script.

Directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller have not yet signed on for the movie, but they will be overseeing the script, notes Deadline.

The sequel, which was made on a $50 million budget, made $320 million.

The first film followed Hill and Tatum going to back to high school. The two originally went to the same high school, where Tatum's character was popular and Hill's was not. In the future, the roles have reversed, partly because times are different and partly because they mixed up their schedules.

The sequel takes place in college.

In the montage at the end of the sequel, "23 Jump Street" took place in medical school. Here's a full list of where else the duo went:
