Rosie O'Donnell used to weigh 237 lbs. On Monday, she made her debut on the new season of ABC's "The View" with a brand new, slimmer body. O'Donnell estimated that she has lost close to 53 lbs since she had vertical gastric sleeve (lapband) surgery in 2013. She had the surgery after she suffered a heart attack that threatened her life in 2012. She said that she is still not used to being thin as she continues to buy clothes that are bigger.

O'Donnell told stories about the time when she went to the movies and was not recognized, People reports. She was chatting with some moviegoers for about 10 minutes when they said that she looked a little like Rosie O'Donnell and even hoped that what they said was not an insult to her. She later introduced herself to them.

O'Donnell recalled that she had many anxieties and all sorts of problems that made her resort to overeating. Co-host Whoopi Goldberg revealed that she also underwent bad eating habits but has now lost about 35 lbs.

O'Donnell, Goldberg and other show co-hosts Rosie Perez and Nicolle Wallace talked about domestic violence. It seemed that the new hosts were still feeling each other out, and the normally outspoken O'Donnell was more muted in Monday's show. There was not too much back-and-forth conversation or sniping. Whoopi Goldberg, who joined the show in 2007, said that they are trying new things and she expects that some things might work and some might not. But Goldberg promised the viewers that they would continue to have great conversation with great women, according to Variety.

Since its inception, the show has been tailored to be a show where famous and outspoken female hosts can give their opinion on daily issues. Over the years, it was marred with friction among its stars. With other networks coming up using almost the same format, ABC is banking on presenting something new with the show's moderator in Whoopi Goldberg and the addition of a former host in O'Donnell. They also added actress Rosie Perez and Nicolle Wallace, who is a political consultant and a Republican supporter.
