The stars of "Downton Abbey" are getting ready for some shocking Season 5 twists.

According to The Telegraph, Season 5 will take place six months after the conclusion of Season 4.

There will reportedly be a lot of changes in Season 5. Elizabeth McGovern, who plays Lady Cora Crawley, said that not every character will deal with this well.

"Some of them struggle with it more than others," McGovern explained. "I think that it's sort of a rift or a source of tension in the marriage that Robert finds it so much more difficult to adjust than Cora does."

Hugh Bonneville, who plays Robert, also teased the characters' struggle with change.

"In the opening episode we discover it's their 34th wedding anniversary and, well let's put it this way, there's a chance, I think, for someone who has been married that long -- there can be certain things taken for granted, and therefore when couples have got stuck in a rut, you need to keep things fresh," he said. "And over the horizon comes forces that challenge the solidity of their marriage."

Meanwhile, Michelle Dockery's character, Lady Mary, will finally begin to accept the death of her husband Matthew.

"Mary is, she is kind of toying with the idea of having an intimate relationship with a man before she decides to settle down with him," Dockery said. "When I read that I thought 'God this is incredibly modern for the time.' But of course it wasn't, that was what was happening. There's much more comparison now in relation to the times than there was in the beginning."

In addition, a storyline regarding the homosexuality of Thomas Barrow, played by Rob James-Collier, will push the character into an "abyss," James-Collier told Daily Mail. Thomas will try to "change" his sexuality, the site reports.

'It's quite a harrowing storyline and I hope it is," James-Collier said. "Because if it isn't, I haven't done it justice."

Season 5 of "Downton Abbey" begins on PBS on Jan. 4, 2015.
