With Microsoft in the closing stages of a $2.5 billion deal to buy Minecraft developer Mojang, gamers are reasonably wondering what to make of the future of Minecraft on non-Microsoft platforms.

The Xbox maker, which said the deal to buy Mojang isn't complete, has said that it plans to continue making Minecraft available on iOS, Android and PlayStation 4, as well as Xbox and PC.

But that leaves PlayStation Vita owners unsure of whether they will get a new version of Minecraft on their devices. Prior to news of the Microsoft deal, Minecraft developers said they were working on a new version for the PlayStation Vita.

A Twitter user asked Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox, if Minecraft would be coming to the Vita.

"Mojang deal isn't closed so I have no input now but I think Minecraft should ship on Vita," Spencer tweeted in reply, according to GameSpot.

In a post written once news broke of the deal with Microsoft, Mojang said, "There's no reason for the development, sales, and support of the PC/Mac, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4,Vita, iOS and Android versions to stop. Microsoft can't make decisions for other companies or predict the choices that they might make in the future."

Rumors about the Vita version of Minecraft hold that it is expected to be available sometime before the end of the year, which also is when the Microsoft/Mojang deal is expected to be completed.

Before the sale is final, concrete details about the future may be hard to pin down, as neither company will want to speak and possibly jeopardize the deal.

More than 100 million copies of "Minecraft" have been downloaded by gamers, including 54 million paid downloads, according to a report from The Los Angeles Times. Mojang made about $120 million in profit in 2013 while bringing in about $300 million in revenue.
