Though it was a long time coming, "Deadpool" has finally been given a release date.

Fox has announced that the superhero flick will be out on Feb. 12, 2016, notes io9.

Test footage was released in July, where a CGI Deadpool, who was voiced by Ryan Reynolds, joked his way through his fight with bad guys. The less than two-minute video was released by Tim Miller's Blue Studios, and it was supposed to be a total of eight minutes. But the clip was all that was released to the public.

It appears that the public's interest in the snippet may have helped move the movie along.

For the 2016 movie, Tim Miller will be directing, but it isn't clear yet if Ryan Reynolds will star as Deadpool. But the actor did recently drop hints about the movie.

"The movie has been in a state of limbo for a while," he said. "There was such an overpowering reaction to the footage, you sort of feel like, 'Oh, so we weren't crazy for our reasons for loving this character, for loving this role.' It's interesting to see the power of the Internet. It's awe-inspiring, actually. And it's neat that Twitter and Facebook and Instagram can move mountains when used in the right way."

Entertainment Weekly says that the February 2016 release date indicates that Fox doesn't expect "Deadpool" to be a big blockbuster. But, Deadpool is not a conventional superhero.

He knows he is in a comic book and is known for breaking the fourth wall.

And this won't be the first time Deadpool is in a movie. Ryan Reynolds starred as the superhero in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine."

Either way, Rob Liefeld, who created Deadpool, said that there was a script that would be PG-13, without having to sacrifice who the character really is.
