A satirical article recently posted online apparently made a number of people believe that the former Chicago Bulls player Dennis Rodman was meeting with ISIS (Islamic State) leaders. After the report published on National Report, it was shared on social networks.

According to the satirical website, Rodman "announced his intentions" to leave the country in order to "speak with leaders of ISIS face to face." The article went as far as including fake quotes from the former basketball star who went on a trip to North Korea a few months back. National Report also poked fun at that trip, talking about how Rodman met with the country's leader Kim Jong Un and played basketball with him.

While thousands of social media users probably got the idea that it was all a ruse while liking and sharing the article on Tuesday night, many still believed that the report was real. At the very least, it caused confusion among readers. National Report even posted an article back in August that tried to explain what the website is trying to do, in which it said that satire does not need to be humorous nor is it meant to be funny. Their reports -- while fictional and satirical -- aim to present real and serious issues in a peculiar manner.

It was actually rather obvious that the report on Rodman was not real since it appeared to be quite humorous. It may have gained traction because the article mentioned several things that people might think Rodman was capable of doing in real life. The article mentioned things like Dennis using his basketball skills to help solve the issues and thinking of "getting a sweet ISIS tattoo" just to show the group that he meant business.
