While Microsoft is releasing the Xbox One in India this week, the company is pushing back the release in China because it just is not yet ready, the company said in an official statement Saturday.

The system was set to go on sale Sept. 23 (Tuesday), but now Microsoft is saying it will come at a "later date."

"To ensure that Chinese gamers can fully enjoy the best gaming and entertainment experiences on the Xbox One, we will likely need some more time for the final preparations," Microsoft told Chinese readers in a statement.

In China, the official Microsoft store is listing a release date for Xbox One as "before the end of the year."

China was excited to see the Xbox One in their country. Because of a 13-year ban on systems not made in China, Chinese gamers were stuck without Playstations or Xboxes. That all changed after this ban was lifted this year.

Since Microsoft is a U.S.-based company, they have tried to get China to end that restriction for years now. Finally, the ban ended, and Xbox will make it to China.

When China finally gets the bugs out with Microsoft and the system is released, it will be more expensive than the version in the U.S. The games, though, will be cheaper.

For the games, Microsoft is working hard with Chinese developers, and there will be over 70 games available.

Pre-orders are in hot demand for the new system in China, Microsoft added on Saturday. There will be 37 cities selling it in China, and 4,000 locations will offer it.

"At Xbox, we pride ourselves on delivering first-rate gaming and entertainment experiences, and to allow us to deliver on that promise, we need to reschedule the launch of Xbox One," a Microsoft spokesperson told Polygon. "Working with our partner, BesTV, we look forward to launching in China by the end of this year."

So, it will not be ready Sept. 23 like many hoped but hopefully before the end of the year. Still, it is exciting news for Chinese gamers who went over a decade without Xbox or Playstation.

What do you think about the 13-year ban on imported systems in China? Do you think China will embrace the Xbox One or will they shy away from it?
