The fifth generation iPad and the iPad Mini's second generation are rumored to be released on October 15 of this year.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Apple could well be organizing another special media event much like the event last September 10 held at Cupertino California. This time, the limelight will be on the tech giant's tablets.

Last year, Apple also introduced the iPad Mini along with the iPad 4 in the month of October. The same release date is pegged by tech junkies and spectators alike. Although rumors are circulating about the tablets' release date, Apple has yet to make an official announcement regarding the devices.

The new iPad will allegedly be narrower compared to its predecessor. A video by Unbox Therapy shows a casing for the fifth generation iPad in silver. Based on the silver casing, the iPad 5 will be the same with the iPad 4 in terms of thickness. It will also have the same screen size though the side bezels are significantly narrower by a total of 1.5cm on both sides.

The ports of both the new iPad and the iPad 5 will be the same though there are alleged changes when it comes to the volume buttons. Instead of having a single pill-shaped button, the new iPad will have separate volume up and volume down buttons. The iPad 5 is also expected to sport a speaker on the bottom, just like the iPad Mini.

Unbox Therapy also released a new video for the iPad Mini 2. Like the previous video, only the casing for the mini tablet was presented. It also came in silver with an aluminum finish. A comparison between the iPad Mini and the iPad Mini 2's silver casing showed that there will be little changes to the mini tablet.

The only noticeable physical changes to the new iPad Mini is the Apple logo which is now mirrored and the disappearance of its name and model information. Rumors are also saying that much of the changes with the iPad Mini 2 cannot be demonstrated by examining casings alone.

Both the iPad 5 and the iPad Mini 2 are expected to feature Apple's new AX7 chip - an upgrade from the current A5 chip. Both tablets are also rumored to sport an "anti-reflective film" through a recently published Apple patent application entitled "UV Mask with Anti-Reflection Coating and UV Absorption Material."
