Apple Inc. has acquiesced another digital company, the Dutch iPad digital Magazine platform Prss. What could Apple do with this digital platform? Some critics suggest that the Apple giant could try creating a new IBook platform for up and coming authors to create their own digital books.

It was announced last week that Apple purchased the Dutch company Prss. -- an iPad digital Magazine platform -- for an undisclosed amount. Some critics believe that with this acquisition it could take Apple iBooks to a whole new level.

What makes Prss so inviting? Back in 2010, the digital platform was the first iPad exclusive newsstand publication. It had several captivating features such as, a photo rich design; it received several awards in TRVL: a publisher of a travel related content on the iPad. And, it gained several positive reviews, TechCrunch reported.

It was because of Prss that lead to the creation of TRVL, which enhanced the digital presence of the company's co-founders -- Jochem Wijnands and Michel Elings. And in turn it increased the social and practical value of the iPad and therefore Apple. By 2012, Apple debuted the iBooks Author, it was a free tool that publishers could use to build and create content for iBooks, TechCrunch reported. The app was also available for OS X.

At the time, it was revolutionary with its "What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWYG)" computing. The WYSIWYG editor is a system in which content -- text and graphics -- on the screen are displayed as it is during editing. In other words, whatever one was editing or working on it would appear as closely to that as it was printed or displayed.

With the WYSIWYG editor it could even create and build textbooks or other ebooks.

With Prss' technology Apple could use it as a design tool, similar to that of the iBooks Author, The Mac Observer reported. Apple could make interactive magazines, and those with extensive publishing experience could then make their own. The iBooks Author software is offered as a free download for Mac computers, so Apple could do it for Prss. But Apple could also use its features in the iBooks Author and utilize it for both book and magazine design.

While the acquisition was reported on last week, it has been suggested that it took place a few months ago. The Prss co-founder Elings tweeted that he was moving from the Netherlands to Palo Alto, California, PC Magazine reported. Palo Alto is an area known for having a large number of high technology companies in existence. But one Dutch blog, iCulture, broke the news that several Prss employees had relocated to San Francisco.

Apple did not directly comment on the amount of purchase of Prss, but the company did state, "Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans," TechCrunch reported.
