It seems that there is something brewing over at Microsoft, since the company has just issued an invitation for a Sept. 30 event. Techies are expecting that the event will be for the announcement of the beta version of Windows 9. It could also be a technical preview and a Windows 8 follow-up version.

Up until now, interested parties have had to contend with leaked information about the possible release date of Windows 9, although some of these leaks come from credible sources. According to PC Advisor, Microsoft has not been forward in confirming Windows 9 by its name but there were already images that came out from the Weibo account of Microsoft's Chinese division saying that the Windows 9 OS was coming soon. It was immediately taken down, but there were some groups that were able to grab a shot of the post before it was removed.

It is expected to be released in several versions (for phones, tablets, laptops and PCs) and will be available around April 2015, with the anticipated reveal at the Sept. 30 Windows event. While it's all still hush-hush, the president of Microsoft France, Alain Crozier, let it slip during an interview that it will indeed be shown during the event, although the name of the latest Windows OS has not yet confirmed.

Based on leaked documents, there will be updates to Metro UI, OneDrive, Windows Defender and Windows activation while the Windows Phone 8.1's personal assistant, Cortana, might also be included in Windows 9. It seems that the Start Menu will make a comeback and that the Charms bar will be removed although still available in systems accessible by touch.

The Task view that could be opened through a button in the taskbar will be used to switch between apps and a new default Home view will show the File Explorer.
