With more than 3,000 items, a man from Mexico has become the Guinness World Record holder for the largest "Harry Potter" memorabilia collection.

Menahem Asher Silva Vargas, 37, began his collection in 2001, notes People En Español.

Vargas called the story of Harry Potter his inspiration, and he said he wants to be known as the biggest fan of the "boy who lived."

And apparently, people know how much he loves the world of Potter because even for his wedding anniversary he is given scarfs, posters, dolls and sweaters.

Although he is constantly looking for items now, it didn't start off this way.

"If I saw a piece that interested me, I kept it, but never with the intention to have a 'Harry Potter' collection," he said. "It was by chance. The fan base kept growing here in Mexico, and I got passionate about it. It became my escape, my feeling with the story."

He didn't start to build a collection until he realized that his finds took up more than one room. He took stock of the items he had, and he started looking for other collectors.

"I decided to take it more seriously, beyond my passion, as something which has to follow a certain order."

Part of his 3,097 collection includes replica Quidditch brooms, Gryffindor scarves and wands. The last Guinness World holder had 807 pieces. Vargas said his salary and bonuses all went into his collection. The Mexican lawyer has been collecting for 14 years.

Vargas' collection fills two rooms.

In a video, his items can be seen neatly arranged, with scarves and sweater displayed on the wall. And though he took out a wand to show it off, his figurines remain in what look to be sealed boxes.
