"Bones" fans should brace themselves for another heart-wrenching episode this Thursday in wake of the tragic and shocking death of Dr. Lance Sweets in the season premiere.

Last week, viewers were hit with devastation when Sweets died after being beaten to death by a trained assassin working to keep the FBI's conspiracy under wraps.

"The entire situation for us was very, very painful and we tried to treat it with as much respect and truth as we possibly could," said executive producer Stephen Nathan about the decision to have Booth and Brennan with Sweets when he died to E! News.

"Sweets and Booth and Brennan had grown so long over the past three or four years especially, that it seemed as if they were the people who should be there when he died...it really was a testament to Sweets, and to the nobility of the character, that his last words really were about Booth and Brennan, of concern for his friend, not in any way thinking of himself," added the EP.

Unfortunately, there will be more sobbing in "The Lance to the Heart," especially towards the beginning of the episode in a scene involving Christine that E! warns will be a tear jerker. There will also be a funeral service held for Sweets, which E! described as "beautiful and heartbreaking and devastating and comforting."

According to E!, John Francis Daley's character was killed off the show because the actor has taken on a directing gig for the upcoming remake of "National Lampoons' Vacation."

"We can only deal with the events that confront us and that's what we had to do in this circumstance. It's more than what is going to be good or bad for the show," Nathan explained. "Really it was the difficulty, the challenge, and, to be honest, the pain of losing a character like Sweets and an actor like John. We love John. It's always difficult and you never really know how the audience is going to respond. We can only hope by treating this in a realistic way...that respects the character that will also show how much we respect the audience. We did not do this in a cavalier or callous way, we tried to do it and integrate it into the show, and hopefully it makes the show better in a way."

In the build up to Thursday's all-new episode, Fox released an exclusive sneak peek featuring Booth and Brennan while they are on the hunt to find Sweets' killer. In the clip, they are discussing the murder and Booth vows to do whatever it takes to get justice.

BuddyTV also dropped several spoilers about the upcoming episode of "Bones," revealing that once Booth captures the man who killed Sweets, Brennan will step in in order to get him to snitch on his employer.

In the meantime, Hodgins and Angela will work together using DNA mapping to uncover the conspiracy.

Fans will also learn more about Sweets and Special Agent James Aubrey, including the things he has in common with Mr. Vincent Nigel-Murray, Sweets and Angela.

BuddyTV also teased that Daisy will drop unexpected news about their baby.

"Late in the game we learn that Sweets had left behind a note. In that note he makes a reference that compels Daisy to reveal something quite unexpected about their baby. This scene reminded me of when, in "Aliens in a Spaceship", Angela is able to interpret the messages left behind by Hodgins. It's very sweet," it states.
