Nintendo released an exclusive game only for Wii U called "Bayonetta 2." It is already off to a weak start in Japan despite receiving a perfect 10 rating from Edge, and it might not garner that many buyers in North America either.

With "Super Smash Bros." for Wii U selling over 1 million copies (Japan) in its first two weeks on the portable Nintendo 3DS, it is understandable that "Bayonetta" did not get a huge amount of sales during its release either in Japan on the Wii U console.

Another factor killing "Bayonetta" is its M for Mature rating. The games that are going to sell the best and make Wii U successful are almost always going to be the family-friendly games with Mario and Yoshi and Princess Peach and all those other cuddly characters we are so accustomed to. A violent game like "Bayonetta 2" probably will not sell in huge numbers like "Mario Kart 8" did.

It just is not the right category for Wii U to be trying to enter. On the other hand, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 sold over 17 million copies of the violent video game "Call of Duty: Ghosts," while Wii U only sold about 180,000 copies.

A new "Star Fox" game should spark a good amount of Wii U game buyers. That game is said to be scheduled for a 2015 release.

We will see what comes next for Nintendo, but it is a good idea that they stay with what has been working in the past: "Smash Bros." and "Mario Kart." The best thing for Nintendo is to create unique titles that Sony and Microsoft are not able to compete with. This will create an even more loyal fanbase and keep them with the Nintendo brand.
