With the calendar flipping over to October comes more product unveils for many companies. One of particular note is Google's next Nexus tablet, which will likely be made by HTC this time.

The Nexus 7 was the last tablet that featured Google's Android operating system. This tablet was introduced in 2013. It was a light, affordable and useful.

But, 2014 is now winding to a close and of course Google is going to want to update their tablet and give it all the latest features to compete with Apple's iPad and Amazon's Fire.

Now, HTC has an excellent track record making smartphones that feature the Android operating system, but what about a tablet?

The rumors circulating about the next HTC tablet have it being called the Nexus 9, skipping the Nexus 8. The rumored date of release is set to be mid-October.

As far as specs go, the screen size is looking to be 8.9 inches displaying 2048 x 1440 pixel resolution. With HTC, the Nexus 9 will get the front-facing speakers that HTC smartphones have. The tablet will also likely have 2 GB of RAM.

The entry level storage will be 16 GB and a 32 GB will also be offered for about $100 more. With a Nexus 7 costing about $275 these days, the Nexus 9 should cost about $399 for the 16 GB model.

A major issue that could delay the release of the Nexus 9 is the Android L operating system. Google would be smart to load these new Nexus 9 tablets with the latest version of Android which is Android L. Android L will be getting a creative name, but for now it is just code-named Android L.

For now, it is wait-and-see mode. Google will have to announce the Nexus 9 and Android L on the same day, one would think.
