Recently, a British fan of the American TV show "Dexter" became obsessed with it, prompting him to become a copycat killer. He even planned a gruesome murder true to form of the TV show, with his girlfriend taking the place of the hapless victim.

There is a huge difference between fact and fiction, and when people cannot distinguish the difference, problems are likely to occur. According to Daily Mail, Steven Miles, who is now 17 years old, carefully planned to murder his girlfriend. His girlfriend, Elizabeth Thomas, was also 17 at the time.

The gruesome act happened in his bedroom when he was 16 years old. He stabbed his girlfriend on the head and back and, not satisfied with that, proceeded to dismember her. He removed both her legs as well as an arm and wrapped them in cling wraps before placing them in a garbage bag. He also covered her dead body in a garbage bag.

He told his sister that he had an alter ego called Ed and that Ed told him to do something bad.

Miles admitted to the murder and was sentenced to 25 years in prison on Oct. 2. He told the court that he used tools from the shop of his father, who was a tree surgeon.

During the investigation, officers found a partially-burned list of the items he needed for the crime. Judge Christopher Critchlow said that the sentence for the premeditated murder could have been longer, but since the killer was still a child, he could not give him the full sentence.

It was reported that Miles suffers from autism, but psychiatrists determined that he was not afflicted with schizophrenia and that he was not psychotic.

"Dexter" was an American TV series where the lead character was a police forensics officer. However, the character was a dark one because he also moonlighted as a serial murderer, killing offenders whom he thought had escaped the law.
