The main cast includes:

  • Claire Danes as CIA Counterterrorism Center intelligence officer Carrie Mathison

  • Mandy Patinkin as the former Middle East Division Chief of the CIA and the interim director Saul Berenson. He is also the mentor and former boss of Mathison.

Recurring cast members will include David Marciano, Sarita Choudhury, F. Murray Abraham, Amy Hargreaves, Corey Stoll, Suraj Sharma, Mark Moses, Nimrat Kaur, Raza Jaffrey, Michael O'Keefe and Art Malik.

Season 4 of "Homeland" is expected to take a dramatic turn due to some events that were seen in Season 3, especially the tragic and untimely death of Nicholas Brody, who was played by Damian Lewis. The focus for the season will be Carrie's relocation to Pakistan, her work and her unborn child, which was revealed in Season 3 due to her romantic involvement with Nicholas.

The story, according to executive directors of the show Meredith Stiehm, Alex Gansa and Alex Cary, will show how Mathison comes to terms with the death of Brody. However, they assured that she will not be having mental breakdowns due to her bipolar disorder, as she did in previous seasons. Stiehm says that her character has emotionally stabilized.

Carrie Mathison will have a new friend, Aayan Ibrahim, to be played by Suraj Sharma. He will be Carrie's source of comfort without any romantic entanglements, although it is likely that she will have a romantic relationship with Peter Quinn, portrayed by Rupert Friend.
