Better comparisons between the two largest mobile phone manufacturers can now be made as the maker of the iPhone finally decided to enter the phablet industry. With its new iPhone 6 Plus, Apple is directly competing with Samsung's Galaxy Note 4.

While the Korean company has long dominated the market segment pertaining to the mobile phone and tablet hybrid, Apple fans can now experience the iOS operating system they are very familiar with but just on a much larger mobile device. In the coming months, the two giants could compete head-to-head on another stage by releasing new flagship devices for the phablet market.

While the Note 4 has features beyond Samsung's other flagship device, the Galaxy S5, Apple's phablet is more like a super-sized iPhone. However, this does not mean that it won't match up against Samsung's newest device.

The Note line has been known for its unique S Pen stylus with features that are specifically available for the device. The Note 4 promises new and improved capabilities with the special pen, such as doubled pressure sensitivity. On the other hand, the iPhone 6 Plus boasts the new Apple Pay system that allows users to use NFC technology to pay for their purchases. Both devices sport a fingerprint sensor for different purposes.

According to GSM Arena, the Note 4 is four grams heavier than the iPhone 6 Plus, which weighs in at 172 g, despite the size of both devices being fairly similar. Samsung's phablet has a bigger screen at 5.7 inches with a 515 ppi pixel density at 1440 x 2560 pixels to rival Apple's 5.5-inch screen with 401 ppi and 1080 x 1920 pixels.

While the Note 4 comes in a 32 GB variant, it is expandable up to 128 GB, and the iPhone 6 Plus will have three variants at 16/64/128 internal storage. Finally, Apple's bigger iPhone will be running on the new iOS 8 with the Apple A8 chipset that includes a Dual-core 1.4 GHz Cyclone processor, while the Note 4 will come in the Android OS v.4.4.4 (KitKat) with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 and a quad-core 2.7 GHz processor.
