There was more screen time for movie star Jennifer Lawrence in the last installment of the X-Men franchise, "Days of the Future Past," and it looks like the same trend will continue for the upcoming "X-Men: Apocalypse," Variety reports.

According to Simon Kinberg, who is returning to co-produce and co-write the upcoming film of the massively successful Marvel franchise, the movie will take a closer look at and explore the relationships between lead characters Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr, who are better known by their respective mutant codenames, Professor X and Magneto.

The relationship between Lawrence's character Mystique and the Beast will also be under the spotlight, as well as the impact of both the elder mentors on the blue-skinned shape-shifter in her younger years.

Although there exists the possibility of subsequent installments following the third film, "Apocalypse" will be closing the trilogy for the aforementioned characters, whose earlier days were uncovered in the latest "X-Men" movies.

Although Kinberg did not mention whether the film would be singling out a character similar to what happened with the previous installments, he did say that "Apocalypse" will further examine how Charles and Erik have made their influence and impact on the character of Mystique.

He said that her character is really interesting due to the fact that she is, in some ways, the child of both Professor X and Magneto. It's not just all about Mystique but rather the two rival friends and their philosophies, from which major conflicts have arisen and revolved around in the "X-Men" films.

"X-Men: Apocalypse" is scheduled to hit the theaters on May 18, 2016, and it will be directed once again by Bryan Singer. "X-Men: Days of Future Past," on the other hand, will be available on DVD and Blu-ray on Oct. 14.
