What do Stephen King and Nathan Lane have in common? They both know about writing and performing in hits such as "Carrie," "The Shining" and "The Bird Cage" respectively.

King, the prolific horror, fantasy, historical, and science-fiction writer has some strong words about physical books. And Lane, along with his life partner, are about to tell the tale of a bulldog.

During King's promotional tour of his latest short story, "A Good Marriage," and the related script, he stressed that physical books are here to stay. Lane and his life partner Devlin Elliot have teamed up to bring readers a picture book based on the adventures of their lovable bulldog.

King on "A Good Marriage" and physical books. He has been working on a number of projects lately, namely he wrote the script for a film adaptation of his short story "A Good Marriage." The film stars Kristen Connolly, Joan Allen, and Anthony LaPaglia, among others.

King is also on a book tour for his newest novel "Revival."

In an interview with the Huffington Post, King was discussing "A Good Marriage," but it quickly became a discussion about physical books versus ebook technology. King was adamant that the progression of books is simply ebooks but with "bells and whistles."

"But the big difference is that audio recordings of music have only been around for, I'm going to say, 120 years at the most. Books have been around for three, four centuries," King said, the Huffington Post reported.

"There's a deeply implanted desire and understanding and wanting of book that isn't there with music. It's a deeper well of human experience. Here's another thing: if you drop a book into the toilet, you can fish it out, dry it off and read that book. But if you drop your Kindle in the toilet, you're pretty well done," King said.

King is serious in his intent about physical books. He, along with 900 other authors, has signed a letter in support of publisher Hachette. Hachette is in a financial struggle with the online retail giant Amazon about ebook profits, the Huffington Post reported.

Speaking of physical books, Lane and his partner are teaming up to work on their first book. Lane, who is a beloved American actor, and his life partner Elliot have inked a book deal with Simon & Schuster. It will be a picture book series for the publisher's Young Readers section, Entertainment Weekly reported. The book is titled "Naughty Mabel," and it is expected to debut in the fall of 2015.

"Naughty Mabel" is about a "fabulous" French bulldog -- the bulldog is based off of Lane and Elliot's own naughty but adorable puppy. Mabel is the queen of the Hamptons, but she has a habit of getting herself into trouble. Animator Dan Krall is expected to do the illustrations for the picture book, and Justin Chandra will edit the manuscripts.

Lane is currently on Broadway in "It's Only A Play."
