No need to fear, Squirrel Girl is here! Marvel's lesser know superhero is getting her own comic book run. Squirrel Girl might not sound like a formidable heroine, but she has fought major Marvel characters such as, Wolverine, Deadpool and even Thanos.

Marvel let it be known last week, on the eve of the New York Comic Con, that the former nanny and college student Squirrel Girl will be getting her comic book series. Squirrel Girl has even worked with the Avengers, albeit it was the Great Lakes Avengers. If you think that this is a joke, check out exclusive first looks of the heroine below this article.

Squirrel Girl has a connection to Luke Cage and Jessica Jones. Squirrel Girl, real name Doreen Green, first appeared in 1992 with the Marvel Super-Heroes, Volume 2, Issue #8. Her abilities are that she can communicate and control squirrels, along with agility, and fighting capability. Doreen/Squirrel Girl was a nanny to Luke Cage and Jessica Jones' daughter Danielle Cage.

Squirrel Girl was created by Steve Ditko and Will Murray in an attempt to move away from serious drama and do something more light hearted.

This new Squirrel Girl will be called "The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl." This particular super-heroine has some great talent behind her. The comic book series will be written by Ryan North, who wrote Boom!'s "Adventure Time" comic; and it will be drawn by Erica Henderson of "Quantum and Woody," IGN reported.

Henderson has also created the cover art for other issues that include appearances by The Hulk, Thor, Captain America, and others.

The newest story of "The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl." Doreen will finish her time as the nanny for the aforementioned Cage and Jones and go off to college. In between making friends and studying, Doreen -- as Squirrel Girl -- will be involved in a lot of misadventures, as well as defending the Earth against supervillains, IGN reported.

While Squirrel Girl has not exactly been a great superhero, Marvel bringing her back sparks some female-centric characters that they believe could capture more female fans. Besides the new female Thor, this will be Squirrel Girl's first solo ongoing series, Entertainment Weekly reported.

"The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl" Issue #1 will debut in Jan. 2015.
